A natural phenomenon called the "Dragon's eye" appears Wednesday at Kagaminuma pond near the top of the 1,613-meter Mt. Hachimantai on the border between Iwate and Akita prefectures. In spring, water from melted snow flows into the pond, which has a diameter of about 50 meters, and remains on the edge. Meanwhile, the snow accumulated near the center remains unmelted, creating a landscape resembling the eye of a dragon. The local tourism association said the phenomenon appears for a limited time in early spring and can be seen until around early June.
