A Hamilton South residence that is being likened to something found in the Hollywood Hills or Europe and comes with an interesting history has been listed for sale.
First National Newcastle City's George Rafty is marketing the unique-looking three-bedroom house at 72 Stewart Avenue with a guide of $2.1 million to $2.3 million.
With a white brick exterior, arched windows and a turreted porch entrance, the property is somewhat of a landmark for the suburb. It is steeped in Newcastle history as well.
Reportedly designed by one of the Hunter Valley's finest architects of the time, Frank Stone, and built in 1927 for Albert Gardiner, who became president of the Newcastle Master Builders' Association, the Art Deco era home was also once owned by Newcastle Knights NRL premiership-winning coach Mal Reilly.
Features include a whole-floor parents' retreat with travertine marble ensuite, a versatile mid-floor mezzanine and an in-ground swimming pool complete with pool house.

East End offering
PRD Newcastle and Lake Macquarie's Mark Kentwell has described an Art Deco building he is marketing in Newcastle's East End as "a unique opportunity".
He is marketing the four-level mixed use building at 26 Watt Street. Operating as boutique short-stay accommodation, the first and second floors each feature two one-bedroom apartments. The 103 square metres ground-floor commercial suite is currently vacant.
"There's a growing popularity for a freehold asset in town, particularly when there's multiple use options," Mr Kentwell said.
"There's not many left, particularly to find a whole building. It's got potential to be improved. It's got really good income as it is. It could be someone who wants to do a really nice inner-city residence or a complete stand-alone investment, or it could even be an office with some additional income."
A guide has not yet been disclosed.

Quick mover
Also rare, a small parcel of vacant land in Cooks Hill has been snapped up.
Kate Rundle, of Walkom Real Estate, reported the $850,000 unconditional sale of a 145.6 square metre block of land at 74 Parry Street within two days of hitting the market. It is believed to have been bought by a local creative who loves Cooks Hill.

Strong start
First National's George Rafty reported a busy opening to August with eight sales in eight days. The sales were across several suburbs and ranged in price from $615,000 up to well over $2 million.
"Buyer demand is still strong in the market, however, listings are limited and good property is achieving good outcomes for our owners," Mr Rafty said.
They included the $2.425 million result for a contemporary five-bedroom house at 44 Edward Street in Merewether and $1.75 million for a four-bedroom house at 8 Harle Street in Hamilton South that was secured one week into its auction campaign.
There were 19 registered bidders for First National's auction of a two-bedroom townhouse at 20/112 Tyrell Street, The Hill which sold under the hammer for $915,000 on August 3.
Four days later with the Hunter region in lockdown, 16 online registered bidders vied for a four-bedroom home on a 695 square metre block at 4 Prince Street, Waratah that First National sold for $900,000.
