'An exceptional job' - Newcastle United fans react to Callum Wilson and Matt Ritchie transfer update

Newcastle United fans have been reacting on social media after it was confirmed that their club have had a £20million bid for Callum Wilson accepted.

The Chronicle understands that the England international must now must agree terms and conditions with the Magpies as Steve Bruce prepares to land a major signing.

It is understood that Newcastle went toe-to-toe with Aston Villa and succeeded in the race to sign Wilson after Aston Villa dropped out.

Sources at Bournemouth have confirmed Dean Smith's men stepped back from the deal once they learned Wilson's preferred choice was St James' Park.

The talks for Wilson had at one stage included the possibility of a swap deal for Matt Ritchie, but the Scotland international is not part of this particular package.

And here is how United fans have reacted to the news on Twitter on Sunday morning.

Wilson scored 67 goals in 180 Bournemouth appearances since joining the club from Coventry in 2014.

Wilson is in line to be the latest high-profile departure from Bournemouth following their relegation from the Premier League on the final day of the season.

Nathan Ake has already moved to Manchester City in a £41m deal and goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale signed by Sheffield United for £18.5m a couple of weeks ago.

It is also understood that Magpies boss Bruce hopes that Wilson will soon be joined by his former team-mate Ryan Fraser while talks to sign Norwich City left-back Jamal Lewis are continuing.
