'An evil thing to do to someone': people horrified after woman is made to work in the baby aisle after miscarriage

Twitter users have been left outraged by a manager's decision to make a woman who had recently suffered a miscarriage work in the baby section of the store she was employed in.

Suffering a miscarriage is a devastating thing for any hopeful mother to go through, and coping afterwards extremely difficult. But for one anonymous woman, returning to work after her loss also meant being surrounded by baby clothes and toys all day.

The woman’s plight was revealed on Twitter by a user named @no_goblins, who was a customer in the shop when the woman was working.

@no_goblins wrote: “Asked the girl ringing up my clothes about her day and she said she was struggling because she'd just had a miscarriage and they made her work in the baby section.

The tweet quickly went viral and fellow Twitter users were quick to rally around the woman, calling out the unnamed store for their treatment of people going through traumatic experiences such as baby loss.

One person wrote: “This is just such an evil thing to do to someone.”

While another said: “That's so cold. That employer sounds sadistic.

“Our children would have been 21 and 24 years old if I hadn't miscarried early, so this makes my blood boil.”

And a third posted: “That’s so incredibly awful, what the hell? Being made to work in a space that does absolutely nothing but remind you of the trauma you’re currently dealing with and haven’t even had time to process? People are so cruel.”

Other commenters shared their own stories of dealing with loss, with many admitting they were also mistreated in various work situations.

Someone explained: “When I lost my baby at 22 weeks back in 2004, it was a full year before I could stand walking down the baby aisle of any store. I just had to quit my job because I couldn't even see or a hold a baby. Rough time. Excruciating.”

Another person revealed: “I got called insubordinate by my boss because I didn’t feel like interacting with the two pregnant teachers I was working with right after I had a miscarriage.

“She basically said I could get fired because I was being antisocial outside of working with the kids.”

Another user agreed, writing: “When I came back to work after my miscarriage, my pregnant boss made me sit thought her impromptu baby shower. She was offended when I walked out after watching her open a gift.”
