'An eventful game' - How the new boys did in Bristol Rovers' win over Yate Town

Bristol Rovers hit ten past Yate Town as they opened their pre-season campaign ahead of travelling to Ireland next.

Gavin Reilly's rapid hat-trick may have stolen the show with no Jonson Clarke-Harris on show as the Gas ran riot with another six goalscorers getting in on the act.

After the match manager and explained his pleasure at the outcome as Rovers began their pre-season in style.

But how did the new boys do? Read on...

Jordi van Stappershoef

It was an eventful game for van Stappershoef, to say the least. He introduced himself to Gas fans by giving away an early penalty but redeemed himself immediately by saving the spot-kick.

That undoubtedly gave him a boost, and the Dutchman looked far more confident after that. He made multiple good catches from crosses and, despite conceding, looked very solid in net. He played 60 minutes, coming off for Andre Alexis.

Mark Little

The former Bristol City man was in action for the first 45 minutes and was extremely impressive. He was constantly bombing up and down the right-hand side, whipping crosses into Tom Nichols and Deon Moore. He linked up well with Moore and some nice exchanges between the two created openings throughout the half.

A fine start for the new Rovers right-back.

Josh Hare

Hare came on for Little at half-time and had a quite half at full-back. There was near-on no defensive work to do for the 24-year-old and he failed to have as much of an impact offensively as Little. He was also bullied off the ball a fair bit but, with time, he looks to have the potential to become a key part of this Rovers squad.

Tom Davies

Tom Davies against Yate Town (Ryan Hiscott/JMP)

An imperious performance from Davies who had a terrific second half at centre-back for Rovers. He was rarely troubled at the back but, when he was, he dealt with it calmly and comfortably. He was part of an inexperienced back four but led them to a second-half clean sheet.

He was also composed enough to bring the ball out of defence and find a midfielder, something which clearly fits in with the way Graham Coughlan wants to play. It looks like the former Coventry man could be fan favourite at the Memorial next season, if he continues with performances like that.
