His sardonic wit and incisive social critiques have made him one of America’s pre-eminent humour writers. Now American comedian, author and broadcaster David Sedaris will read a selection of his essays at the Sydney Opera House as well as share his diary.
Sedaris has visited Australia numerous times, describing it in a New Yorker essay as pretty familiar to Americans: “same wide streets, same office towers. It’s Canada in a thong, or that’s the initial impression.”
Sedaris gained public recognition when his essay Santaland Diaries was broadcast by National Public Radio in 1992. He has since been nominated for three Grammy awards for best spoken word and best comedy album. There has also been a feature film adaptation of his story C.O.G., which premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film festival.
