An Edinburgh amber flood warning has been issued by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency

A Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) amber flood alert has been issued for Edinburgh and the Lothians.

Heavy rain began on Sunday night and continued in to the early hours of the morning, and is expected to last during Monday.

And SEPA is warning that the heavy, thundery rain forecast could cause flooding in Edinburgh and the Lothians thanks to surface water on the roads.

The organisation says it is difficult to predict which areas are most at risk, although the overall threat is expected to decline by the end of the day.

They urge the public to check travel conditions before beginning any journeys.

A similar warning is also in place for the Scottish Borders, and the warning for all areas will stay in place until further notice.

The Floodline quick dial number for Edinburgh and the Lothians area is 23200.

Advice and information is also available through Floodline on 0345 9881188.
