An edge rusher Seahawks could target in 2020 NFL draft

The NFL draft is almost a year away but that doesn’t mean it’s too soon to start looking at some potential college players the Seattle Seahawks could target in 2020.

With a ton of draft capital to work with, including up to four compensatory picks, Seattle should be able to fill a number of needs next spring.

One position of interest remains edge rusher, and CBS Sports’ Chris Trapasso believes Notre Dames’s Julian Okwara is a fit for the spot.

“After part-time jobs as a freshman and sophomore, Okwara erupted as a junior in a full-time role for the Fighting Irish,” Trapasso writes. “He had eight sacks and 12.5 tackles for loss in 13 games, and he’s just scratching the surface of how good he can be.”

The Seahawks traded Frank Clark to the Chiefs in the prime of his career and are gambling on first-round pick L.J. Collier to eventually find his footing. Adding another young rusher like Okwara could help solidify the defensive line.

“Okwara is a dynamic athlete with burst off the snap, solid bend around the corner, and a developed arsenal of pass-rushing moves,” Trapasso continues. “While those moves aren’t consistently effective – or powerful enough – just yet, they flashed on film.”
