An Ayrshire area has one of the highest coronavirus case rates in Scotland

An Ayrshire area has one of the highest coronavirus case rates in Scotland.

The very latest data shows that the zone 'Crosshouse, Gatehead and Kilmaurs Rural' has a positive case rate of more than 800 per 100,000 in the last seven days.

That's after the area recorded 37 cases in the 4,621 population in the past week.

The high number of cases puts the zone among Scotland's worst hit Covid areas at the moment.

The area is eighth-worst in Scotland at the moment.

Another Ayrshire region – 'Girvan Ailsa' – has the second-highest case rate in Ayrshire and makes the top 20 in Scotland.

The zone has recorded a case rate of 720.8 per 100,000 in the past seven days after reporting 23 cases.

Case rates by local authority shows that North Ayrshire is one of the worst-hit in Scotland with 267.2.

It's followed by East Ayrshire on 262.3 and South Ayrshire isn't as badly hit with 214.9.
