Forget dusty, crusty ancient sheds that smell all musty and make you scream with the spider population camping inside whenever you open the door.
A compact plastic outdoor horizontal shed available at Walmart now with a whopping $260 discount is the way to go. I invested in an identical one five years ago and it’s still looking as good now as the day it was delivered.
Better yet, it’s been the perfect solution for my immensely awkward, sloped and small yard, which has limited flat surface area to put furniture on. It’s a great backyard storage idea for a small space.
Why I love these resilient plastic sheds
Easy to build with spring-loaded arms and a lockable door, this compact but spacious outdoor storage shed is made of resilient resin, helping keep its color, form and integrity for years to come. It's waterproof, too.
Exterior dimensions: 55.9”L x 9.52”W x 43.30”H
Sometimes, new really is better and that’s certainly the case with this resin shed from Walmart.
Its sloped roof and small footprint, coupled with its surprisingly cavernous interior (41 cubic feet) means you’ll be able to keep your yard tidy and gardening essentials easily tucked away without having to give up a lot of square footage on limited ground.
If you can picture it, 41 cubic feet is about the size of 8-10 standard moving boxes and you’ll able to fit a few large items and lots of smaller and medium ones inside with ease.
The space in mine has proven to be a bit of an Aladdin’s cave, as we’ve kept our lawnmower, along with my daughter’s bicycle, a load of gardening equipment, bags of soil, outdoor safe tableware and even a large (8x8ft) collapsible gazebo tucked away in it with room to spare.
I also love that this shed stand-in doesn't have the full height of a typical shed. It means we’ve been able to position our shed in front of our kitchen window. This looks out to our small and awkwardly shaped little backyard without compromising our view or any light.
As a big bonus, it doesn't take up prime and limited patio space.
The doors open towards you and a lock can be added for security, while the sloped roof lifts up and away with spring-loaded arms, taking any eight-legged friends away from your eyeline and out of touching distance so you can grab your items without fear.
The arms also mean it’ll stay open with zero risk of it slamming down on fingers.
The resin material means it won’t fade or crack in the sunshine, and it’s waterproof too. We’ve never once experienced a leak or any dampness in ours, meaning there is no musty smell in the shed, unlike traditional ones made of wood.
I’m not the only shopper thrilled with their purchase.
Walmart verified shopper Kevin says, ‘I have three of these on my ninth-floor patio in New York City, and they have remained very resilient despite being subjected to various weather conditions, including sun, heat, wind, rain, snow, and more. My belongings have all remained secure and dry inside. Extremely happy with these units.’
A few savvy verified shoppers even turned it into a spot to house their backup generators. Buyer L.C, was one, and they explain, ‘We had to purchase a generator because we appear to lose power rather frequently due to our 'wonderful' power company.
'When my husband discovered this [shed], we realized it would be ideal for storing the generator. He added a vent and retrofitted it for our generator after watching a YouTube video. We adore that it's produced in the USA, the size is ideal, and it's a terrific solution to safely store an otherwise unsightly generator! Very robust and well worth the money!’
What to shop
If, like me, you're sick of your outdoor cushions getting rained on by sudden summer showers, this waterproof outdoor storage box is for you.
Say goodbye to a tsunami of tools when you open your shed or outdoor storage unit with this nifty organizer. Just watch out that your tool + organizer isn’t taller than the shed will fit.
I used latch-lidded bins like this to store out of season or garden hosting items including napkins and one-use serveware in the shed. They have stayed perfectly intact, dust and pest free.
If you’re enjoying the summer weather, it’s the perfect time to spend a little time and energy on essential outdoor cleaning tasks to keep your yard and home’s exterior up to scratch and ready for the cooler, wetter weather when it arrives.
