An antioxidant brew for ageing

Found in the cell walls of plants, such as bran and certain fruit seeds, ferulic acid serves as an antioxidant to fight off free radicals.

Kiehl's has harnessed its beauty benefits through the art of phyto-fermentation for its new Ferulic Brew Rejuvenating Facial Essence.

For centuries, fermentation has been used in various cultures and in medical traditions to preserve food, source beneficial acids, probiotics and antioxidants for overall health and wellness. In addition, the fermentation of plant extracts can enhance the potency of ingredients.

Through research, Kiehl's chemists discovered a 120-hour phyto-brewing process using enzymes from germinated brassica seeds, to break down physical plant material and transform it into phyto-components from the brassica extract.

The resulting ferulic acid brew along with lactic acid and squalane work together to address early signs of ageing.

Naturally found in dairy products, lactic acid is an exfoliating alpha hydroxy acid that helps refine the surface for smoother skin. A signature Kiehl's ingredient, squalane is a botanically-derived lipid with a moisturising effect.

The Ferulic Brew Rejuvenating Facial Essence preps the skin for additional steps in the skincare routine, to better receive targeted serums and moisturisers.
