An alternative playlist for Her Majesty's water music

According to Adrian Evans, the "pageant master" tasked with arranging a London Philharmonic Orchestra soundtrack for the Jubilee flotilla's voyage down the river Thames, the Kinks' Waterloo Sunset didn't quite make the cut. Come 3 June, the 86-year-old monarch will instead be serenaded with movie themes and century-old chestnuts. This, though, is G2's fantasy flotilla playlist:

Albert Bridge The Clash: London Calling. "London is drowning and I live by the river." The video for this Thameside apocalypse was shot beside the bridge.

Royal Hospital, Chelsea Bert Jansch: The Gardener. Horticulturally minded British folk for the flower show venue.

Battersea Power Station Pink Floyd: Dogs. The four chimneys adorn the cover of Pink Floyd's Animals album and this scabrous satire also nods to the local dogs' home.

MI6 building John Barry: The Ipcress File. Replacing the LPO's James Bond Theme, the classic Swinging London alliance of Barry and Caine.

Tate Britain The Creation: Painter Man. Brush-wielding 60s art-school graduate laments the rise of modern art.

Ministry of Defence PJ Harvey: Let England Shake. An eerie vision of England at war, "weighted down with silent dead".

Lambeth Palace Mark Stewart & the Maffia: Jerusalem. Sir Hubert Parry's arrangement of William Blake fed through a dub mangle.

Houses of Parliament Dusty Springfield: Nothing Has Been Proved. The 1963 Profumo scandal, retold by the Pet Shop Boys.

Victoria Embankment The Kinks: Victoria. Some family history for Her Maj; anthemic ambivalence for her subjects.

The BFI Underworld: Born Slippy. The techno duo's unforgettable contribution to the Trainspotting soundtrack.

Shakespeare's Globe Akala: Shakespeare. The London MC behind the Hip Hop Shakespeare Company: "I do it for kids that's illiterate, not Elizabeth."

Southwark Bridge S'Express: Theme from S'Express. Shoom, in nearby Southwark Street, was ground zero for British acid house.

HMS Belfast Robert Wyatt: Shipbuilding. Heartbreaking tale of how bloodshed overseas means jobs back home.

Tower of London Kate Bush: Oh England, My Lionheart. Florid, hallucinatory nostalgia. Includes ravens, umbrellas and Spitfires.

Tower Bridge Blur: This is a Low. The flotilla turns around here, but the song follows the river eastwards. "And into the sea/ Goes pretty England and me."
