An alternative Manchester Christmas market is coming to Victoria Baths

Victoria Baths is reopening for the first time in over six months to host a series of Christmas markets.

The Festive Winter Fair takes place at the grade II* listed landmark on the weekends of November 14 to 15, and November 21 to 22.

The former swimming pools and Turkish Baths will be filled with stalls selling everything from art, jewellery and ceramics to homewares and decorations, all made by local craftspeople.

Victoria Baths will also have its own stall selling stocking fillers and fine art inspired by the building and its history.

Mulled wine and mince pies will also be served in the on-site tea room.

With Manchester's official Christmas markets cancelled, it's a chance for shoppers to soak up the same kind of festive atmosphere in Covid-secure surroundings.

The event will also support independent traders at the end of what’s been a very tough year for small businesses.

Elizabeth Sibbering, operations manager, said: “We’re delighted to be opening our doors again, for what has to be one of our favourite events of the year.

"The beautiful tiles and stained glass found throughout the building make a really stunning backdrop to all the maker’s stalls.

"There’s lots of spaces for people to explore – including the Turkish Baths suite and two of the former swimming pools, despite some areas needing to be closed for Covid safety reasons – and we aren’t dependent upon the weather.

“Victoria Baths is incredibly lucky to have had such amazing support over the years, from those who campaigned to save this building right through to those who’ve helped us to face the many challenges of 2020.

"This event will be an opportunity for those who love Victoria Baths as much as we do to enjoy spending some time in one of Manchester’s favourite buildings.”

The markets will be open from 10.30am to 4.30pm each day, with timed entry slots, capped visitor numbers, signposted one-way routes and hand sanitiser stations all helping to keep visitors safe.

Tickets cost £3 for adults (children and Friends of Victoria Baths members go free) and may only be booked for up to six people from the same household or support bubble, in line with the current restrictions in Greater Manchester.

Money raised by the event will go to help keep the building open for everyone to enjoy.
