An 87-year-old man has died after being hit by a BMW in Rochdale

Police have confirmed that a man who died in a road traffic collision in Rochdale on Friday night was an elderly pedestrian.

Police were called to St Mary’s Gate shortly after 8pm on Friday night, to reports that a vehicle had collided with a pedestrian.  

An 87-year-old man sadly died at the scene.

St Mary’s Gate has since reopened after road closures were put in place throughout the night.

No arrests have been made and enquiries are still ongoing.

Police Constable Phil Shaw of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This was a tragic incident in which an 87-year-old man has sadly lost his life.”

“Our thoughts are with his family at this devastating time and specialist officers are doing all they can to support them.

“I would like to appeal to anyone that was on or around St Mary’s Gate at the time of the collision.

“If you were on or nearby St Mary’s Gate prior to the incident and have any dashcam footage or CCTV that could help determine what happened in the moments that led to this collision, please contact us as a matter of urgency.”
