An 80-year-old woman has died after she was struck by a car reversing out of a driveway

An elderly woman has died after she was struck by a car reversing out of a driveway in Wigan.

The 80-year-old woman was taken to hospital following the collision on Vicarage Road, in Ashton-in-Makerfield, shortly before 11.20am on Thursday, July 25.

She later died in hospital of her injuries.

Police said the woman was a pedestrian and the blue Volvo C30 was backing out from the driveway of a property on the street.

No arrests have been made and police continue to make enquiries.

Greater Manchester Police are appealing for any witnesses to the collision or anyone with further information to come forward.

Police Constable Joanne Worsley, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This was a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the family of the woman at this dreadful time. 

“If you were in the area at the time and saw the pedestrian or have any dash cam footage that could assist our enquiries then please get in touch.” 

Information can be left by calling police on 0161 856 4741 quoting incident number 1216 of 25/07/19. 

Alternatively, information can be left with the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
