The 18-year-old is understood to be a pupil at St Joseph’s Roman Catholic High School in Newport .

Gwent Police said they received a call expressing concern for the welfare of a woman in Durham Road, Newport at around 2.05pm yesterday (May 2).

The force said in a statement: “Officers attended the scene and assisted paramedics in transporting the 18-year-old to the Royal Gwent Hospital by ambulance. Sadly, she later died.
