An 11-year-old with underlying health conditions has become one of UK's youngest coronavirus victims

An 11 year-old has become one of the youngest victims of COVID-19 in the UK.

Health officials in England reported 823 new deaths on Saturday, with victims aged between 11 and 102, NHS England said.

Among those who lost their lives, 33 had no known underlying health conditions - they were aged between 29 and 94.

The deaths include 208 in London, 197 in the North West of England, and 165 in the Midlands.

The number of people who have died with COVID-19 across Britain is now 9,875 - a leap of 917 deaths in a 24 hour period.

In the last 48 hours, almost 2,000 people in the UK have now died in hospital after contracting the virus.

Among Britain's youngest coronavirus victims was "very healthy" 13-year-old Ismail Mohamed Abdulwahab, who died in hospital in London in March.

A five-year-old with underlying health conditions is believed to be Europe's youngest COVID-19 victim, after they passed away in a hospital in England last week.

The latest update from the Department of Health reads: "As of 9am 11 April, 334,974 tests have concluded, with 18,091 tests on 10 April.

"269,598 people have been tested of which 78,991 tested positive.

"As of 5pm on 10 April, of those hospitalised in the UK who tested positive for coronavirus, 9,875 have sadly died."

The UK recorded its highest increase in deaths on Friday when the total rose by 980 in 24 hours.
