Amy Winehouse: The late singer's life in pictures

Amy Winehouse died five years ago today of alcohol poising. She was 27-years-old.

The troubled singer was found dead in her home in Camden Town, north London. A coroner’s report ruled Winehouse had died of alcohol poisoning.

Her life was a turbulent one: highs of musical success, critical acclaim and more awards than she could ever squeeze on her mantelpiece were punctuated by lows of drink and drug abuse and being hounded by the paparazzi.

Her musical legacy, however, lives on and Winehouse’s dexterity and raw talent are still appreciated today. After her death, tributes rolled in from around the world, including from the singers she herself idolised, as the music industry struggled to comprehend the loss of one of Britain's brightest stars. More tributes are being paid today.

“I’m not a natural born performer. I’m a natural singer, but I’m quite shy, really,” she said in her final interview.

“You know what it’s like? I don’t mean to be sentimental or soppy but its a little bit like being in love, when you can’t eat, you’re restless, it’s like that. But then the minute you go on stage, everything’s OK. The minute you start singing.”
