Amy Winehouse's mum denies singer's dad controlled her like Britney Spears' father Jamie

Amy Winehouse ’s mother, Janis, has denied claims that the legendary late singer’s relationship with her father, Mitch, was similar to that of Britney and Jamie Spears.

Janis, who will mark her daughter’s ten-year anniversary on July 23, has furiously hit back at the claims which suggest her husband ‘took control’ over Amy’s life.

It comes as Britney Spears fans continue to petition to end her twelve-year conservatorship.

Since 2008, the pop icon’s entire life has been under the control of her father, meaning that she has no access to her finances and estate, and Jamie even decided what type of mobile phone his daughter can have.

In recent weeks, more and more fans have been speaking out about Amy Winehouse’s life before her tragic death at 27 – and many can’t help but see similarities between the two music legends.

Droves of fans have accused Mitch of not doing enough to try and get Amy the help she needed to kick her alcohol and drug addictions.

Now, Amy’s mum Janis, 66, has insisted that her husband should not get the blame for how his daughter’s life ended up.

In a teaser clip for a new BBC documentary Reclaiming Amy, Janis insists: “It wasn’t his fault. You didn’t tell Amy what to do. Nobody did.”

When asked whether she sees parallels between Britney’s conservatorship battle with her dad Jamie and her husband’s relationship with Amy, Janis said: “It wasn’t at all like that.

"We all do wrong things sometimes, and the easy target was Mitchell.

“But all of us put in so much effort.”

Speaking ahead of the broadcast of the BBC documentary which is set to air on July 23, Janice admitted that she was looking forward to Amy’s fans seeing the ‘real her’ and the girl that she raised before the limelight engulfed her.

Amy’s mum said: “I don’t feel the world knew the true Amy, the one that I brought up, and I’m looking forward to the opportunity to offer an understanding of her roots and a deeper insight into the real Amy.”

The eye-opening documentary heavily features Amy’s parents, who separated when she was 10.

In it, they detail why they took great issue with Asif Kapadia’s Oscar-winning 2015 documentary Amy for suggesting Mitch and others failed to do enough to help the star.

Mitch said: “In 2015, I had a nervous breakdown because of that film.

“It was so destructive and for what reason? The film portrays her as a lonely girl on her own all the time.

“I used to go round to the house and there could be 30 people in there – and I’m not talking about the old days – they were good people and good to be around Amy.”
