Amy Winehouse's father to pen memoir of singer

Amy Winehouse's father will write a memoir for his departed daughter, to be published next summer. Mitch Winehouse will continue the transformation from taxi driver to lounge singer to author, composing "a definitive account of Amy's life", with proceeds to benefit the Amy Winehouse Foundation.

"I feel that I need to write this book to tell the true story of Amy and to help with my personal recovery," Mitch said in a statement. The 60-year-old signed a contract with Harper Non-Fiction in the UK and HarperCollins in America, according to The Bookseller, for a book called Amy, My Daughter. It will follow the singer from her childhood through to Back to Black, taking in her struggles with addiction.

"[It] will be a must-read for Amy's legions of fans, and also a heartbreaking account of a father's love for his lost daughter that will speak to any parent," wrote Nick Canham, editorial director at Harper Non-Fiction. "The strength Mitch Winehouse has shown over recent months is truly admirable."

"[I] want to raise as much money as possible for Amy's foundation," Mitch explained. "All proceeds from the book will go directly to help children who are disadvantaged through illness and substance addiction."

The Amy Winehouse Foundation was launched on 14 September, to benefit young people in need. "Foundation going great," Mitch tweeted on Friday. "We will start granting real soon."
