Amy Winehouse biopic movie 'coming next year' says dad, Mitch

The life of Amy Winehouse could is being made into a big screen biopic that could rival that of recent hits like Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocket Man, says the late singer’s late father.

Mitch Winehouse, 69, hopes to turn the tragic life story of his chart topping daughter – who died in July 2011 aged 27 – and turn it into a box office smash.

The London taxi driver says he is working on developing a film which he hopes will be ready in time to hit cinemas as early as next year.

Mitch was portrayed in a negative light with the 2015 Oscar winning big screen documentary, Amy, which told the story of the British singer’s career triumphs, addiction to drink and drugs, and tragic death.

The Londoner – who slammed the documentary movie – says he will have more creative control than he was allowed in the Asif Kapadia directed doc.

He said during an interview on Paul Danan’s podcast The Morning After: “We’ve got a lovely movie, a lovely Broadway show coming, and that’s how we’ll get our own back, by portraying Amy the way she was.

“The movie is gonna be in a year or two.

“We’ve gone beyond talks, we’re at script stage.

“The film is going to be a biopic.”

And it sounds like Mitch will be deeply involved in all aspects of the film.

He continued: “The casting will be – and I get to choose, with recommendations from the producer – a star-maker.

"We’re gonna get an unknown actress, ideally a Jewish girl from North or East London who looks a bit like Amy and talks like Amy.”

Mitch featured in the 2015 documentary – with some critics suggesting the film made the proud dad look like a villain.

Amy's death in 2011 was recorded by a coroner as misadventure after test results showed she had died after drinking five times the legal drink-drive limit of alcohol.
