Amy Sedaris tapped into 2025’s biggest pattern trend in her guest apartment bedroom – it’s equal parts country chic and city style

Gingham, the checkered pattern most associated with farmhouse style, has gotten a stylish 2025 upgrade. The colorful, stripes-adjacent look is suddenly chic again across fashion and interiors. Amy Sedaris is taking part in a major way.

Images of her newly redesigned bedroom in her guest apartment are a masterclass in plaid and gingham decor; they show the actress perched on a bed bathed in gingham.

A gingham patchwork quilt is complemented by sweet floral and ruffled cushions. Amy's red gingham curtains are the perfect complement to her pink walls. Two realistic paintings elevate the space.

As interior design trends have shifted towards more characterful, personality-filled spaces, combining patterns like gingham, stripes, and florals together as in Amy's space has grown majorly in popularity.

Shop the gingham trend

Amy Sedaris's richly layered bedroom is the perfect demonstration of how to pattern clash correctly.

Georgia Metcalfe, Founder and Creative Director at French Bedroom explains: 'Cushions are a great way of adding texture and layers to your bed and can be used to accentuate any accent colors within your bedlinen. We love picking out smaller details and bringing them to the forefront, for example you can opt for a fine navy pinstripe and pair it with oversized navy cushions and bedspreads for an elegant finish.'

Whatever your interior design style, you can tap into this trend in a way that matches your personality. Though Amy demonstrates the style in a maximalist way, it's possible to recreate in a more pared back manner.

'For those who prefer a more minimal look, incorporating a traditional Breton stripe works perfectly,' advises Georgia. 'Its simplicity works beautifully as an elevated neutral in the home. If you favour something a little bolder, try pairing stripes with a contrasting pattern like a pretty toile or a floral print, the result is a striking color palette with plenty of personality.'

Elevating a bedroom requires tapping into pattern and fabric across all the different surfaces. Headboard ideas are an under tapped resource in this arena.

Georgia states: 'A beautiful and bold headboard can work equally as well in smaller spaces as it does in a grand chateau. To make a trendy bold look work in smaller spaces, place a delicate floral or toile headboard against a striped wallpaper that utilises the same color scheme, the vertical stripe will add the illusion of height whilst providing an on-trend pattern clash.'

'Additionally, by keeping the color scheme the same, this will avoid the space feeling too overwhelming,' she continues, 'To finish, top your bed with crisp white sheets and add a pair of bedside tables for a grounding symmetry that will truly allow your headboard to shine'

Combining patterns is the bold new method for creating a rich and characterful interior. Amy Sedaris's bedroom is the blueprint.
