Amy Schumer responds to Taylor Swift 'body-shaming' claims

Those living in the public eye are stuck between a rock a hard place when it comes to social media; they often need accounts to be relevant, but even the most unassuming post can land them in trouble.

This is something Amy Schumer learnt this week after an Instagram post saw the comedian accused of body-shaming Taylor Swift.

Schumer shared a picture of herself on a beach with the caption: “Taylor that's not a thigh gap. This is a thigh gap.” Cue headlines such as ‘Did Amy Schumer Go Too Far With Her Taylor Swift Joke?’ and suggestions the post was criticising her figure after Swift's appearance in an outfit exposing her legs at the Grammys.

She responded to her critics with a message on Thursday telling everyone to “take a deep breath” accompanied by a picture of herself wearing a short blond wig and a drawn-on beard.

“That's not a beard this is a beard,“ she wrote in a caption. ”So sorry to anyone with a beard this may offend. I am a comic and should never make fun of myself at the expense of anyone else that I wasn't making fun of in the first place.”

A representative for Schumer also clarified to People that “[Amy] loves Taylor and was making a joke because [she] doesn't have a thigh gap,” for those who didn’t quite get it the first time round.
