Amy Schumer has poked fun at the backlash surrounding Hilaria Baldwin, who has been accused of pretending to be Spanish.
On Sunday, Alec Baldwin’s wife responded to the allegations, which went viral, and confirmed that she is in fact a Boston-born white woman called Hillary.
The 36-year-old added that she had also spent a period of her upbringing with her family in Spain.
“I’ve seen chatter online questioning my identity and culture. This is something I take very seriously, and for those who are asking – I’ll reiterate my story, as I’ve done many times before,” she said in a seven-minute video shared on Instagram.
“I was born in Boston and grew up spending time with my family between Massachusetts and Spain. My parents and sibling live in Spain and I chose to live here, in the USA.
“We celebrate both cultures in our home. Alec and I are raising our children bilingual, just as I was raised."
The allegations that Ms Baldwin had been faking her Spanish heritage emerged after social media users shared clips in which they claimed she had been switching between a Spanish and American accent.
In one clip, Ms Baldwin claimed she did not know how to say cucumber in English.
Schumer responded to the backlash by sharing a now-deleted post of herself on Instagram wearing a large sun hat and a swimsuit alongside the caption: “I get it. I went to Spain a couple times and loved it too.”
The 36-year-old comedian added a cucumber emoji to her caption.
However, Schumer has since deleted the post.
It comes just a few days after the Trainwreck star posted a picture of Ms Baldwin holding her four-month-old son, Eduardo, in her underwear that had been taken from the yoga instructor’s account.
Pretending to be Ms Baldwin, Schumer captioned the post: “Gene and I wanted to wish everyone a happy holiday season. Enjoy it with whatever family members are talking to you this year,” in reference to her own son.
However, Schumer deleted the post after Ms Baldwin accused her of “body-shaming” her in an Instagram video.
"After many people reached out to me, I decided to respond to the whole photo with Edu being made into a joke thing," Baldwin captioned the video.
"Love a good joke – don’t think this should have been such a big deal. I’m still 50/50 on whether I should respond, but as we see, I decided to. I’m an advocate for body positivity and inclusivity ... which, let’s all remember, includes everyone. Xoxo, a very tired and cold mother."
Schumer commented, "I’m sorry!"
