Amy Schumer: Live at the Apollo round-up: Trainwreck actress hits out at being labelled a 'sex comic'

Hollywood has taken a beating in the last week, with Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper and Rooney Mara all levelling criticism at the film and TV industries inherent sexism.

Amy Schumer has once again waded into the debate, telling an audience at her Live At The Apollo show the only reason she is labelled a ‘sex comic’ is because of her gender.

“I'm labelled a sex comic, like that's in interviews, and people are all like ‘So you talk about sex?’ and I think it's because I'm a girl.

“I feel like a guy could come out here and pull his dick out and people would say ‘Oh, he's a thinker.’”

She continued to criticise writers who portray women as having to ‘put up with sex’ while men are seen as loving it.

“I just think that sex is explained incorrectly as far as men and women's roles goes,” she told the Apollo audience. “Like we're all told ‘men love sex and women just deal with it.’

“Like every article, every sitcom it's always the guy coming home like "honey how about tonight huh?" and she's always like ‘blah, you know I hate your d***. Laundry, laundry.’”

“It's insane, I don't know any girls like that. Every girl I know likes having sex.”

Schumer has often tackled industry sexism in her sketches, particularly in her Comedy Central series Inside Amy Schumer. One episode famously parodies the classic film 12 Angry Men, with the debate instead focussing on whether she’s ‘hot enough’ to be on TV.

At the Apollo gig, put on by HBO and directed by Chris Rock, the comedian also spoke about model Kate Upton: “I saw Kate Upton and I knew she wanted to talk to me because beautiful girls love funny girls. They think we are like clowns.”

Amy Schumer recently starred as the lead in Trainwreck, alongside Bill Hader.
