Amy Schumer buys back father's farm he lost to bankruptcy and illness

Amy Schumer has gifted her father with the farm he used to own before it was taken from him due to bankruptcy and disease.

The comedian has previously spoken about how her life changed drastically as a child when her father Gordon’s furniture company went bankrupt and he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis causing them to lose all of their money.

In an Instagram post on Monday, the 35-year-old shared a home video of herself playing in a corn field as a child. In a caption, she explained: “We lost the farm when we lost everything else. But today I got to buy it back for him.”

Schumer also posted another photo of a FaceTime conversation with her father where she confirmed she had bought the farm back.

In Schumer’s memoir which was released over the summer, the comedian told how her life went from one of wealth and privilege (including being chauffeur-driven to school around New York’s upper east side) to moving out to Long Island. Her parents later separated and her father’s condition deteriorated.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly last year, she said of the time: “It was Hunger Games. I was like, ‘I’ll take it from here’. I tried to make everything okay by making everyone laugh about how horrible things were. It kept us alive.”
