The Guardian and Observer football writer Amy Lawrence was named journalist of the year at the Women In Football awards in London on Tuesday night.
Lawrence accepted the accolade in person at the event at New Broadcasting House, and tweeted: “Very grateful for this. I have always believed football should be for everyone to get obsessed by if they want to, and I always will.”

Lawrence, who joined the Observer in 1996, has covered four World Cups after her first in 1998. She was the only British female print journalist to cover Euro 2016 in France.
Among the others to be recognised by Women In Football was the former Chelsea doctor Eva Carneiro, who was given the woman of the year award “for her courage and professionalism”.
