Amy Broadhurst has been named best boxer at the European Championships after winning gold for Ireland on Saturday.
The Dundalk woman won her first European gold medal this week, capping off an amazing tournament for team Ireland.
Three gold medals, two silver and two bronze medals was Ireland's total medal haul this week. This number eclipses the previous record of three medals won at the 2019 European Championships.
And one more accolade has been awarded to an Irish fighter, as Broadhurst has been named the best boxer of the entire tournament.
The 25-year-old boxed supremely well throughout the tournament and rarely looked troubled as she cruised to yet another major gold medal.
Being awarded fighter of the tournament puts the icing on the cake of what has been a glorious season for the County Louth woman. Having already secured gold medals at the Commonwealth Games and World Championships this summer, European success represents Broadhurst's third major title this year.
After being named fighter of the tournament Broadhurst, who recently purchased her first house with her €102,000 World Championship prize winnings, took to social media to reflect on a marvelous 2022.
"European Champion 2022 & best boxer of the tournament," Begins Broadhurst's post.
"2022 all my dreams came true, what a year."
Along with Broadhurst, Olympic Champion Kellie Harrington and Aoife O'Rourke also took home European gold. The other four medalists for Ireland were Caitlin Fryers, Tina Desmond (Both silver), Michaela Walsh and Shannon Sweeney (Both bronze).
