Amritsar airport launches hub-and-spoke model for international transit via Delhi

The Centre on Tuesday launched its hub-and-spoke aviation model at Amritsar airport, enabling international passengers to complete check-in, immigration, customs and baggage formalities at the origin airport before transiting through Delhi for their overseas flights, a move aimed at reducing transit hassles and strengthening global connectivity from northern India.

The initiative was inaugurated in the presence of Civil Aviation Secretary Samir Kumar Sinha and Airports Authority of India (AAI) Chairman Vipin Kumar, while Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu addressed the event virtually.

Under the new system, passengers flying from Amritsar to international destinations via Delhi will be able to check in their baggage, complete immigration and customs formalities, and undergo security procedures at Amritsar itself. On reaching Delhi, they will proceed directly to the security hold area before boarding their onward international flight, eliminating the need to collect baggage, change terminals or repeat immigration procedures.
