Amritpal Singh clears doubts about authenticity of his video message

AMRITSAR: Clearing the suspicions raised by many on the authenticity of his video clip which was viral on social media on Wednesday, the fugitive Amritpal Singh on Thursday released an audio clip confirming the genuineness of the video clip.

In a nearly two minutes audio message, believed to be of Amritpal, he denied that the video was recorded under police pressure.

He said he didn’t have the habit of looking toward the camera while recording a video besides when the video was recorded he was in poor health.

"Convey the message to the sangat that I am in Chardi Kalan (high esteem)", said Amritpal.

Notably ever since the release of Amritpal’s first video clip on social media on March 29, the fingers are being raised on its trustworthiness.

"Several times he is seen looking left and right, the usual confidence on his face as seen in his selfie while holding an energy drink is absent, he looked nervous and scared, he is not wearing a pink turban and is back to Baba’s attires and there are other several points which raise the suspicion on its authenticity," said a senior police officer on condition of anonymity.

In the audio message, Amritpal also denied having put any demands before the police like not torturing him, or showing him arrested.

He says a few stupid people say that he had put several demands before his arrest. There had been no talks over his arrest so far or putting any conditions, he added.

Reiterating about the holding of Sarbat Khalsa, he said he had asked the jathedar of Akal Takht to convene a Sarbat Khalsa and give validation of being a jathedar.

"If we still continue to do politics or do the same things which we have been doing in past, then what is the use of jathedari in future", he said adding that the Sikh bodies should unite and give evidence of their existence.

He said he didn’t worry about going to jail or being tortured in police custody. "Let them do anything," he said.

He said being on run he didn’t have enough means or reach to good phones or mics as he had earlier and was also weak since he eats once in eight hours.

Meanwhile, there were reports that Amritpal’s family was "missing" from their house in Jallupur Khera village since Wednesday afternoon, but theey were back on Thursday.

Sources informed that the parents and wife of Amritpal were not at their home and had gone to Amritsar to meet Amritpal amid reports of his surrender.

Police remained tight-lipped about the whereabouts of Amritpal’s family. "Now they are at home," said a police official who didn’t wish to give his name.
