Amravati: 79 duped of Rs 18.5 crore under pretext of investment

AMRAVATI: As many as 79 persons were duped to the tune of Rs 18.5 crore which they had invested in the share market but the mutual fund documents prepared by the brokerage firm were fake.

On Thursday evening a complaint in this regard was lodged with Kotwali police station by one of the victims, Rishabh Rajesh Sikchi, 27, a resident of Biyani Chowk here. Police have booked six persons in this regard.

According to the complainant, 78 others and he had invested in share market trusting Paresh Karia, who is the director of Anugrah Stock and Broker Pvt Ltd. But Karia and other accused allegedly prepared fake contract notes of mutual fund and ledger statement. The accused also uploaded them on a website, as per the complaint.

A complaint was lodged with financial crime branch which investigated the case. On the basis of the investigation and complaint of Sikchi, offences have been registered against Paresh Karia, Anil Gandhi, director, Tejimandi dotcom, Vikram Limaye, managing director, Edelweiss Custodial Services Ltd, NSE chief regulatory officer and CDSL Institute under various sections. Further investigations are under way.
