‘Amouranth’ has been unbanned from Twitch

Kaitlyn Siragusa, also known as ‘Amouranth’, was ranked the number-one female Twitch streamer of Q1 2021, amassing 12.1 million views in a few short months (thanks, Kotaku). Her popularity has only grown since she made headlines for taking part in Twitch’s hot tub and fart meta.

In case you haven’t gotten wind of it, those last few words might need a little context, so strap in.

Back in May 2021, Amouranth was demonetized on Twitch for taking part in the hot tub meta, in which popular streamers would chat to viewers while bathing in a hot tub. Once that viewership-growing tactic got snuffed out, Amouranth and other popular streamers entered the fart meta, in which they perform ASMR and fart into the mic for their viewers. She was banned for that as well. Welcome to 2021, it’s a gas.

This time, however, there was no public reason given for the four-day ban. To confuse matters more, Amouranth was also banned from posting on Instagram and TikTok at the same time. According to the streamer, she loses around 300,000 Twitch followers every time her account is suspended.

Still, what’s 300,000 followers when you have 4.5 million on Twitch alone? Amouranth also claims to make £1.3 million net per month through monetization of her selfies, so she doesn’t rely solely on Twitch for her income.

This isn’t the first time a big-name streamer has been banned from Twitch without a public explanation. Last year, DrDisrespect, one of Twitch’s biggest stars, was banned from the platform. DrDisrespect says he knows the reason and will sue in response, but there’s been no indication of what that reason was to the public.
