It is still far too early to say anything definitive about a player’s growth this season with just four games under the Boston Celtics‘ record played in the 2021-22 NBA season to date, but you have to like the early returns for starting center Robert Williams III compared to past seasons.
He meshes incredibly well with his teammates, is playing more minutes than ever, but is also playing under control with just 4 turnovers and 7 personal fouls total in those four games. He’s also putting up career-highs in free throw attempts (3.3), scoring (9.8 points), rebounding (8.8), assists (2.0), steals (1.3) and blocks (3.0) per game. In short, the highest-flying Celtic looks like he may have made “the leap”.
After Boston’s overtime win against the Charlotte Hornets on Monday, the big man was more interested in shifting the focus onto his teammates than talking about himself when it was pointed out that this is about as good of a run as he’s had at the NBA level. “I feel like we’re building a good chemistry,” said Williams.
