Amitabh Bachchan’s Pink gets U/A certificate with just four cuts

Looks like the Amitabh Bachchan-starrer Pink, a film that aims to bring awareness about crimes against women, is already changing minds - even before its release. The Central Board of Film Certification has reportedly demanded just “four verbal cuts” in the movie for it to receive a U/A certificate.

These four verbal cuts are: ‘Phaad de unki’, ‘Ra***’, ‘Bi***’ and ‘Sa***’, a DNA report claimed. The film’s “commitment to projecting the urban Indian woman’s predicament in a patriarchal society” impressed the board.

“The CBFC has always been empathetic to my films, right from Vicky Donor, which was about sperm donation. They have always understood the relevance of my film’s subject,” the report quoted Shoojit Sircar as saying. Sircar has produced the film.

CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalai told DNA, “Akira and Pink are dark powerful films with hard-hitting content. Normally, they would be granted ‘Adult’ certificates. But we’ve given them ‘UA’ certificates because we at the CBFC feel pre-adult audiences - kids, teenagers and adolescents - need to know what dangers awaits them outside their homes.”

The social-thriller is directed by National Award-winning Bengali director Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, who is stepping into Hindi films with the project. Produced by Shoojit Sircar, the film will hit screens on September 16.
