MOHALI: Taking the charge for the first time as deputy commissioner in his career, Amit Talwar, a 2013 batch IAS officer assumed the office in the afternoon on Tuesday at Mohali. He bowed in respect with his folded hands at the chair before sitting on it. He was greeted by an array of the administrative officers and supporting staff during his joining.
Amit Talwar said that "as per the directives given by the chief minister Bhagwant Singh Mann it would be our utmost duty to provide accountable and responsible administration to the people of the district."
He said that, "it would also be our duty to provide benefits of the government services to the people at their doorsteps so that the people do not have to go to the government offices unnecessarily".
He said that no compromise would be made against corruption and the problems of the people would be solved in a transparent and time bound manner.
Talwar said, "Apart from implementing the government schemes, we will touch all the burning issues and redress them as per law. Our focus will be primarily on improving drugs de-addiction centers and ensure that the drugs distribution chain is broken. Mining and illegal construction will also be taken to with the support of district police."
Earlier, on his arrival, a guard of honor was given to him by the Punjab Police contingent. Taking over the charge, he held a meeting with the senior officers and got information about the situation in the district.
Amit Talwar, a 2013 batch IAS officer, has prior to this also served as SDM in Mohali during the period 2010-12.
Apart from being Director Transport in Chandigarh administration, and additional deputy commissioner (ADC-UT) Talwar has also served as the HoD of Water Supply and Sanitation Department in the Punjab Government.
