Amir Khan weighs in heavier than Terence Crawford for Madison Square Garden bout

Amir Khan weighed in slightly heavier than Terence Crawford for their WBO welterweight title clash on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden.

Khan tipped the scales first at 146.6lbs before Crawford came in at 146.4lbs.

The pair had officially weighed in behind closed doors earlier in the day because they did not want to wait until the public weigh-in at 4.30pm in front of the fans at the Garden.

Khan, 32, looked relaxed and smiled to his fans before standing on the scales, wearing just his tracksuit bottoms.

Crawford, 31, also looked chilled and the pair faced off for the cameras with no incident.

Amir Khan insists he has no regrets ahead of Madison Square Garden return

Khan is a huge underdog against three-weight world champ Crawford, who has a perfect 34-0 record, but he looked relaxed when he stepped onto the scales.

Andre Ward, who was trained by Khan’s cornerman Virgil Hunter during his glittering career, feels the Bolton fighter faces a tough night.

“I know Amir very well, he works with my whole team in the San Francisco gym,” said the former two-weight world champ.

“Everything is there physically for Khan, but his problem is the application, can he do it in the biggest moments?

“Does he want to prove how tough he is or is it more important to win? Winning is the only thing that will extend his career.”

Ward feels Crawford will want to make a statement by stopping Khan after his rival for the world’s pound-for-pound crown, Vasyl Lomachenko, dismantled Anthony Crolla inside four rounds last Friday.

Terence Crawford's trainer taunts "gun shy" Amir Khan ahead of New York showdown

“Because of Amir’s past, Crawford needs a knock-out to keep competing with Loma for the pound-for-pound status,” said Ward.

“If Canelo had only beaten Khan on points in 2016, then he would have been criticised, even with the weight difference.”
