Amir Khan vs Billy Dib will not be for the WBC's 'Pearl' belt

Amir Khan won't be fighting for the dubious honour of the WBC's 'Pearl' belt when he takes on Billy Dib next week.

The sanctioning body put the special title on the line when Khan was due to take on Neeraj Goyat in Saudi Arabia.

But with Goyat suffering injuries in a car crash, he has been replaced by former world champion Dib.

And the WBC have subsequently withdrawn the 'Pearl' belt and replaced it with the International title.

The organisation said: "The World Boxing Council had prepared a special belt to recognise the winner of this fight [between Khan and Goyat] not only because this is a historical contest, but also as a symbol of peace to recognise the efforts of Amir Khan; representing Great Britain and Pakistan, and Neeraj Goyat; representing India.

"This is to boost sports and social development in this region.

"Considering all these elements and above all the proven quality of both contenders, the WBC approved Khan vs. Dib for the vacant international welterweight belt. The pearl belt will be reserved for another special occasion in the future."

Former WBA and IBF light-welterweight champion Khan is bidding to get his boxing career back on track after he was accused of quitting against Crawford.

"We had some bad news today that Neeraj Goyat was in an accident in India," Khan told BNTV.

"He is no longer able to fight on July 12 in Saudi Arabia. We have made a change in opponent, I hope Neeraj recovers quickly and gets fully fit again.

"Things like that just happen in boxing. Our new opponent is Billy Dib, a two-time world boxing champion.

"He will be coming up to fight me like I went up to fight (Saul Alvarez) Canelo. He feels confident and he wants to fight me."

Dib, 33, a former IBO super-featherweight and IBF featherweight champion, is set to return to the ring having announced his retirement after a points defeat to Tevin Farmer in an IBF super-featherweight bout in Sydney last August.
