Amir Khan's boxing ranking if he retires now after Kell Brook defeat

Amir Khan has dropped in the welterweight rankings after his loss to bitter rival Kell Brook.

The fiercely-anticipated grudge match finally came to a head on Saturday evening, with the two veterans going toe-to-toe in front of a packed-out crowd at the Manchester Arena.

Khan now looks set to retire after the loss, in which he was quite frankly dominated by Brook - who landed a number of significant blows on the Bolton fighter before the sixth round stoppage.

After the fight Khan said he was surprised by Brook's output and power and admitted that he could hang up his gloves for good.

Khan said: "The first time I felt like this was when I fought Bud Crawford.

"I felt like I just can't get in the groove. I thought maybe it was just because he was that good. And today again, I tried to get in the groove, and I just couldn't really get in the groove.

"I've had 40 fights, winning two world titles, fighting in America and around the world," Khan told Sky Sports . "I need to sit down with my family. But it is more towards the end of my career.

"In the ring, I didn't have excitement and that push. That's maybe a sign that I should call it a day. But let's see."

After the fight, Boxrec's rankings show that Khan is now ranked as the 26th best welterweight.

Brook is the fourth ranked at the weight, behind only Terence Crawford, Yordenis Ugis and Keith Thurman. Brook refused to rule out retirement, stating he could look to fight Chris Eubank Jr, who has also been a rival of his.

Khan looks set to retire with a 34-6 record.
