Amir Khan finally admits truth about Kell Brook sparring sessions after defeat

Amir Khan has finally admitted that he doesn't remember his sparring sessions with Kell Brook after he was defeated in Manchester.

The British star faced his fierce long-term foe Brook but came up short being stopped in the sixth round after the referee halted the contest.

One of the many exchanges in the build-up was who got the better of an infamous sparring session that took place earlier in their careers.

Khan has now admitted the truth claiming that the pair arguing over the training clash made another good "storyline".

"To be honest with you Kell I don't even remember the sparring sessions," Khan said during the post-fight press conference with Brook.

"I'm serious do you remember them Kell? Listen I sparred Brian Rose when I was 15 and I remember that he kept picking me off.

"But I can't even remember me and Kell sparring but it made a good storyline no?"

Brook responded: "It was that long ago, listen it is irrelevant now."

The pair have been long-term rivals and a fiercely debated sparring session which took place over 17 years ago continued to be part of the pre-fight drama.

After finally sharing the ring for a second time, the pair have dismissed their rivalry after crossing paths back in 2004 at an England Boxing training camp.

Khan had previously claimed Brook was handed so much of a "beating" he was never picked again to be part of the camp.

"Kell was briefly there. They let him spar just to check him out," Khan previously said. "But he took so much of a beating that he was never picked again.

"This is why Kell knows I've got one over him. I was the better fighter at the time. I was levels above him. Kell just can't let it go. He remembers, and it must tarnish him."

Brook offered a different account of the sparring, recalling: "They [Team GB] had their favourites. Amir was the one getting a push.

"When you go to spar their best kids and get the better of them, they don’t like it. A lot is invested into these kids. And the trainers think they are the best trainers.

"So imagine a kid from the Ingle gym comes and stands their best kid on his head. They question their own boxers, but also question themselves."

The pair clashed over the sparring session in both press conferences with Khan adamant despite later admitting he doesn't even remember the clash.

Ultimately Brook has now secured the bragging rights after dismissing Khan in brutal fashion while leaving his rival with a series of facial injuries.

The drama continued right up until the first bell with Khan threatening to not pay Brook if his gloves were not altered so he changed them in the ring.
