Amir Khan has expressed his concern at the lack of drug testing before his grudge match against Kell Brook next month.
The two Brits are set to go toe-to-toe in a fiercely-anticipated bout at the Manchester's AO Arena on February 19th, with their rivalry having brewed for the last decade.
However, the build-up to that fight has surprised Khan due to the lack of drug testing, which is usually standard ahead of bouts, and he's keen for that to be resolved.
“I just sent a message to my wife the other day. I also copied my lawyer into it and it said, Can you please push whoever – Sky or Boxxer, Mr Shalom, Ben Shalom – saying the testing needs to be done," he told iFL TV.
“I mean, I’m sat here, there’s no testing being done. Why? I’m waiting to be tested. I’m the one who had to push that. I said: ‘Look, why’s the tests not been done?’ It’s a bit strange.
“Testing normally gets done when I normally work with Vada [Voluntary Anti-Doping Association] or Usada [United States Anti-Doping Agency], it normally gets done like straight away. At a press conference they could turn up.
“But for some reason, I’ve been in camp for four weeks and there’s no testing which has been done, which I find quite weird.
“I’m like: ‘What’s going on?’ We want to be tested, I want to be tested, because it gives me that peace of mind – knowing that it’s a fair fight.”
Khan's fight with Brook is set to mark the start of a big year for British boxing, with Tyson Fury vs Dillian Whyte and Anthony Joshua's rematch with Oleksandr Usyk both set to take place in the first quarter of 2022.
Those contests could be followed by a heavyweight unification bout later in the year between the two winners.
