The Foreign Ministry announced Wednesday that as of Tuesday, 38 countries and regions have taken measures to restrict the movement of people entering from Japan such as by asking them to remain in their homes, while 22 additional countries and regions have limited entry to those coming from Japan amid the outbreak of the new coronavirus.
According to the ministry, people entering Thailand from Japan are urged to monitor their conditions in places such as hotels for 14 days. While in Vietnam, visitors displaying symptoms, such as a fever, are placed in quarantine for 14 days at medical institutions if they do not return to Japan.
The Japanese government is becoming increasingly concerned about the situation, with a senior Foreign Ministry official saying, "The perception that Japan has a high risk of coronavirus infection is spreading around the world."
On Tuesday, the government requested the World Health Organization make a statement based on facts as WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus called the epidemics in four countries including Japan "our greatest concern." Following the call, he made corrected his earlier statement, saying, "Outside China ... 80% of those cases are from just three countries: the Republic of Korea, the Islamic Republic of Iran and Italy."
