America’s Independence Day Parade canceled and Great American State Fair opening delayed

  • Washington, D.C.'s Independence Day celebration has been canceled due to triple-digit temperatures, marking a significant disruption to America’s 250th anniversary events.
  • “The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for the District of Columbia, with heat index values expected to reach between 110°F and 115°F. This decision was made after extensive and careful consideration of the safety of our participants, spectators, and staff as the top priority,” organizers said in a statement.
  • The White House-backed Freedom 250 was also forced to delay opening of the Great American State Fair on the National Mall, re-opening at noon instead of 10 a.m., after closing temporarily Friday due to triple-digit temperatures.
  • At least seven people who attended the Freedom 250 Great American State Fair on Friday needed “advanced life support,” according to CNN.
  • Despite the sweltering temperatures, President Donald Trump has promised to deliver a "really long" speech at 9:45 p.m. to conclude the day’s celebrations , followed by an even more spectacular fireworks show.
