Americans who say they are most eager to vote strongly disapprove of Donald Trump, new poll shows

Americans who say they are most eager to vote strongly disapprove of Donald Trump, a new poll shows.

A CNN-SRSS poll shows 60 per cent of those who are enthusiastic about voting in the midterms in November disapprove of the president.

Equal numbers of those who were less enthusiastic at the prospect of voting viewed Mr Trump with approval as with disapproval.

Overall 42 per cent of respondents said they approved of how Mr Trump was handling the presidency while 54 per cent disapproved.

His approval ratings were therefore up by seven points since last month and are the highest they have been in a year.

A separate poll by the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research also found Mr Trump's approval rating was up seven points in a month.

A growing economy and tax cuts were cited as likely reasons for the uptick in the president's fortunes.

Nearly half of Americans surveyed - 47 percent - say they approve of how Mr Trump is handling the economy, his highest rating on any issue. When it comes to tax policy, 46 percent of Americans back Mr Trump's moves, the NORC survey found.
