American singer Lauryn Hill gets absolutely slated after Cork performance

The reaction to the vast majority of the shows in Musgrave Park in Cork over the past week was hugely positive.

But those expecting Lauryn Hill to close out the summer open-air series with a bang were left disappointed for the most part.

On Wednesday night, expectation was sky-high ahead of the arrival of the American, who would be singing songs from the multi-Grammy Award-winning album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, Cork Beo reports.

But, apparently, those in attendance got less than an hour of entertainment from the former Fugees member.

The sound quality was not up to scratch according to fans' complaints, of which there are many, while plenty were left uncomfortable by the quibbling from Hill on stage before she made her premature exit.

Below are just some of the issues raised by the concert-goers and some of the language got a bit salty.

One person said: "WORST GIG EVER... Lauryn Hill you are a f****ng disgrace, played for 50 minutes and complained all the was."

Another said: "Lauryn Hill was a disgrace... I've had better nights in Reardens. One hour was an insult.

"No crowd interaction. Terrible atmosphere. Not good enough."

A third added: "Just out of Lauryn Hill. 50 minutes of watching her give out to the sound crew while singing a few tunes. The support was great though!"

A fourth said: "Very disappointed in Lauryn Hill. No encore!!!!!!! Good performance but she could have gave us more!!!!"

A fifth added: "The sound was so bad tonight in Cork for Lauryn Hill, it was so uncomfortable to watch, she was very clearly struggling onstage @mcd_productions and then she only played for an hour. So so disappointing!"

However, one woman strongly disagreed, saying she thought the atmosphere was "fantastic" and her voice was "amazing".

She wrote on Facebook: "I can understand why some people were disappointed but for me I was in the presence of greatness. I saw past the fact that she had obvious issues with sound and just listened to her voice. Which was fricken amazing btw.

"I adore her as an artist so couldn’t believe how lucky we were to have her in Cork.

"I knew going there that she is notorious for doing short sets so I was in no way surprised. She has ONE album so why are people so mortally wounded that the set was so short!!!

"Her support acts were brilliant the whole atmosphere was fantastic the weather was glorious I enjoyed the company of my friends and the night over all."
