American ranks Scouse accent out of 10 after listening to video

An American has ranked the Scouse accent as an “8/10” after listening to viral Liverpool memes.

Christian Divyne, who goes by @xiandivyne on TikTok, is an American who is on a quest to rank UK accents. In a video earlier this week about accents, Christian admitted he had never been to the UK and had no idea where any of its cities even are.

Since then, he has been bombarded by his viewers with requests to rank different British accents. Christian decided to rank UK accents based on whether he likes the accent and how well he can understand it.

Christian said that many commenters asked him to give his verdict on the Scouse voice. He said: “I’m listening to more UK accents for the first time, this time Scouse - is that how you say it? People keep asking for it, here we go.”

Christian first listened to a famous clip of Liverpool fan James Redmond in 2017, where he argued that then forward Sadio Mane was “the best footballer player in the world”. The original YouTube video has been viewed over 4m times since and been constantly re-shared across social media.

Christian said that James’ voice was “really understandable”. He then listened to another viral clip of a Scouse woman who said she had been on 11 holidays in one year because of her nan’s lottery winnings.

Despite being warned that Scousers were hard to understand, Christian was a big fan of the Liverpool voice. He said: “I’m going to give Scouse 8/10, I like this accent.

He added: “I feel like what’s going to happen is that all the accents people are telling me are bad I’m going to like, and all the people are telling me are good I’m not going to [like].”

In Christian’s accent ranking, Scouse is currently third. Yorkshire received an 11/10 and Glasgow 9/10, while Geordie was awarded a 6/10.
