American ordered to leave Scotland by Home Office wins battle in fight to remain

An American ordered to leave her Scots home or be thrown out the country in the middle of the lockdown has won a six-month reprieve.

Kate Collins, 60, has lived with boyfriend Alan Gibb in Aberdeen for seven years after the couple met in her native Houston, Texas.

She was granted a partner visa but had to return to the US to care for a family member for three months.

When she returned, she had missed the deadline for renewing her visa and was detained at Heathrow for five hours.

Her visa status was changed to “visitor” and an application to reverse this was refused in January.

She was shocked when the Home Office phoned on April 13 ordering her to fly back to the US.

But now it has been confirmed she has won another six months.

Katie said: “I don’t know what the future holds but right now I am here and I am legal.”

A Home Office spokeswoman said: “She can apply for further leave through the right and proper channels.”
