American news reporter 'immediately fired' after 'inappropriate comment' heard on mic

An American news reporter has allegedly been fired from their job immediately after an inappropriate comment was picked up on their microphone.

ABC 7 New York's Ken Rosato, who is best-known for being at the helm of Eyewitness News This Morning, has been fired, according to reports.

Fresh claims state that the anchor, 56, made an unseemly remark, with it picked up "on an open mic".

After the comment was picked up and subsequently heard, Ken was "immediately let go", according to Page Six.

The outlet's report claims that the news reporter's colleagues were notified of his departure on Friday (May 13), with them told "one-by-one".

Although his colleagues were notified of his firing, it is understood that they were not told what he said that resulted in the sacking.

An email was also sent to staff, with it reportedly stating that Ken "no longer with WABC. We thank him for his years of service".

Page Six also reports that an insider claims a "racial slur" might have been uttered by the anchor, although Ken's representative has slammed these claims.

His representative has told other outlets: "Being fired for any racial slur is 100 percent inaccurate and untrue.

"Ken Rosato had a benchmark of 20 years at WABC of supporting all equality."

The news anchor began his career in reporting with ABC back in 2003, with him working as a freelance reporter for the brand's Eyewitness News show.

Four years later he was moved to the anchor desk, with him hosting This Morning alongside Shirleen Allicot, Heather O'Rourke and Sam Champion.

The Emmy-award-winning anchor hasn't been active on Twitter since May 2, with his last post on Instagram being uploaded three weeks ago.

ABC are yet to release an official statement regarding Ken's reported sacking.
