American Music Awards 2022 full winners list as Taylor Swift dominates the night

The American Music Awards 2022 returned with plenty of glitz and glamour on Sunday evening and saw pop sensation Taylor Swift dominate the show.

Stars turned out in force at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles as the ceremony celebrated its 50th anniversary, with the likes of Pink and Dove Cameron dazzling on the red carpet.

The night belonged to 32-year-old Taylor, who took home all six of the AMAs she was nominated for. She cemented herself as the most decorated artist in the award's history, with a total of 40 career wins.

The singer-songwriter was awarded Artist of the Year, the night's top honour, and thanked her dedicated fans for their ongoing support.

"I found that the more music I made, the more music I put out, the happier I was," Taylor said as she accepted her accolade. "I have fans to thank, essentially, for my happiness."

Rapper Bad Bunny led the list of nominees this year with eight and ended up taking home two awards for favourite male Latin artist and favourite Latin album, for hit album titled Un Verano Sin Ti.

Beyoncé and Drake had six nods each while Adele, Harry Styles and The Weekend earned five nominations each.

The night featured performances from Dove Cameron, Lil Baby, Carrie Underwood, Imagine Dragons and Pink, who paid tribute to the late Olivia Newton-John.

Lionel Richie, a 17-time AMA winner, received the Icon Award for his contributions to the music industry. Stevie Wonder was among the artists paying tribute to the 73-year-old.

Elton John took home his first AMA win since 1988 for Best Collaboration with Dua Lipa. This made him the longest-recognised artist in the awards show's history, after he was first nominated back in 1974.

Also notable was BTS' win for Favourite Pop Duo or Group, marking their fourth consecutive win in the category and making them the first artist to achieve such a streak.

This year's AMAs also featured three new awards. The first-ever Favourite Rock Song was awarded to Måneskin for Beggin', while Ghost picked up Favourite Rock Album for Impera.

Wizkid went home with the award for Favourite Afrobeats Artist.
