Well, how about this? A survey of wages paid to young journalists across the United States reveals a pattern similar to that in Britain. (see my posting below, Why there is growing unrest). The 2006 Newspaper Industry Compensation Survey found that the average entry-level salary last year for 521 American dailies is "a humble $29,048 (£15,595)." They'd be better off moving to the classified department, where the average salary for an inside sales rep last year was $36,077 (£19,330). Read all the figures. It's fascinating stuff.
