American investor Mark Campbell linked with Premier League takeover after failed Black Cats bid

American investor Mark Campbell, who was once linked with a takeover bid at the Stadium of Light is now reportedly eyeing a move for Premier League side West Bromwich Albion.

Campbell entered discussions with Sunderland owner Stewart Donald in 2019 but a deal would not materialise.

The talks were documented in the Netflix series Sunderland 'Til I Die. A meeting between Campbell and the Black Cats owner was filmed at the Academy of Light.

His name would reappear when Donald went public regarding the asking price for the club. He was also linked with a takeover at Scottish League One side Falkirk and was named the preferred candidate but again, nothing materialised.

Now, according to The Daily Mail, Campbell and his Fairway Sports Capital group are eyeing a move for the Baggies.

The American is one of three parties that are interested in taking over at the Hawthorns, with current owner Lai Guochuan keen to sell the club at an asking price of £200million.

A preferred buyer is set to be named in the coming weeks as the current owners casting an eye over the offers, which are believed to include penalty causes if the Baggies fail to avoid the Premier League trap door.
